IT WAS ALL A DREAM....
Pontchahoa Kennels, home of our Retriever training, pet obedience and breeding facility, was established in the 70's. It started as a vision by the previous owner and our late dear friend, Ron Mathis. He dreamt up a country spread, with live oak trees, beautiful technical retriever training ponds, a first class kennel facility and a life spent training retrievers for hunters in south Louisiana and surrounding.
The vision Ron created played into how we became a reality. As a young girl, Kristen grew up swimming in his ponds and swinging from his trees during visits to Pontchahoa with her dad. Years down the road, as her professional life, training dogs, started to take off, Kristen began renting kennel space from Ron until he, shortly after, saw an opportunity to retire. That was when we purchased Pontchahoa in 2015.
Pontchahoa remains a retriever training operation to this day. The existing kennel is operated by a Retriever Field Trial trainer. Kristen has taken to the development and training of AKC Field Trial retrievers as an amateur. Her love is bringing along competitive young dogs from and 8 week old puppy to running Derbies.
